Accelerated Reader (AR)

St. Mary’s Catholic School incorporates the Accelerated Reader (AR) Program into our reading curriculum.

Accelerated Reader is a program designed to encourage children to read a wide range of books at all levels within their reading range.

Reading range is determined by the STAR reading tests that our students take each August and January. Ranges usually run from a one grade level range at the younger grades to a six or more grade level range at the older grades.

Once a student has finished their AR book, they take a comprehension test over the book.  Tests are only allowed to be taken at school. Students and parents can monitor progress toward individual quarterly goals by accessing Renaissance at Home through the link on the SMS website under “resources”.

Students and parents can access a list of AR book levels, and learn if there is a test associated with a book at www.arbookfind.com.
